There was a point in time around 1989 when we could not get the original Bosch spark plugs and in an emergency would use the old SMP spark plug like the 2243. Despite the short reach they worked, however we changed them back over to the Bosch as soon as new stock was received.
I just had a look at Rock auto in the US: the Bosch plugs are available there but at a cost of around $25 a plug. Wow.
