Default Grant point is appropriate....

The positioning or orientation of the "D" rings has been predicated by the design of the frame/bumper connection.

The HUP ...C8 and 2 wheel drive C15 all had a different style/size frame.... borrowed from the civilian design...... and it made it difficult to mount the D rings vertical......except on the C 15a C30 and C 60

The Ford series is another issue..... the positioning of the grill guard made the D ring attachment different......

I even have a "raw" D ring casting or I should say forging that Old Jeff gave me some years ago..... the ring has not been drilled and neither of the four bolt holes on the mounting plate.... it still has a tag attached as design model or some such mention.

On the Chev models I have seen some forging with a raised...1/8 of an inch.... surface where the 4 bolt holes are....almost like a thick washer .... while others have a flush finish..... don't know the significance....
