As far as the 12 VDC supply a 12 VDC gell cell or taking the power from the first (driver side) battery should work to provided 12 VDC? I guess the use of a gel cell is better as the wires would be out of the way, rather than running into the Iltis.

Any suggestions on reading material for review the use of the timing light with the Iltis?

I like the idea of the engine test stand. I have a spare Iltis engine that I would like to set up on a engine test stand. I know DND had one and I will have to look at the dimensions. Princess Auto will have one on sale next week. I should be able to just make up the frame on wheels, mount a spare radiator, use a marine gas tank and some gauges. I also have spares of all the ignition parts (TCI, Coil, TCI cables, etc..). I have some other pulled Iltis engines, that need some work, and it would help to know what is wrong with them..........

Princess Auto also has the remote push start buttons. Is this a good item to have? I also have some of the Iltis replacement starter buttons. I guess I could use them and extend the wires. That way I could plug into the wiring harness for the Iltis start button.

Some ideas for engine stands:

Any suggestions for an engine test stand for the Iltis?

Cheers!

If you need the factory timing specs you remove the rubber plug on the drivers side on top of the bellhousing and line up the 0 on the flywheel to the arrow tab just inside of the hole.

I was lucky to be able to pick up the factory Iltis power pack stand and ad some bolt on brackets to make a great test stand for engines and all of the bolt on components like alt, starter, dist, TCI boxes.I used parts of a factory wiring harness to make connections a lot easier. see pics.
