Hey Bob Thank you very much for the quick response, that image looks perfect. I know I will be able to give it to the muffler guy and have it build it. Thanks Gary

| First section exhaust header to muffler

Hi All Please somebody correct me if I am wrong, I believe that first section of pipe exhaust header to muffler is identical to the standard Chev truck using the 216 engine. Difference between standard trucks seems to be in the horizontal length. I've got several HUP, C60L, C60S that have come off my trucks which I've used as patterns to have new ones made. Along with some standard Chevy that I have picked up. I'll see if I can make a tracing of them to day. If possible to make a tracing will report back. Cheers Phil

| First section exhaust header to muffler pictures

Hi Gary Below is a picture of three different pipes from my HUPs showing the section exhaust header to muffler picture. The pipes are basically only bent in to planes nearly vertical and horizontal. I have made tracings of the pipe if they would be of use. Cheers Phil

Hey Phil Thanks for the picture, I think that between the picture you posted and then one from Bob the muffler guy should be able to fab up something for me. Thanks for the post. Gary

Again I can't recomend to much fenton exhaust manifolds. Eliminates the leaky gasket after a couple hours and wakes the motor up a lot. You don't need duel exhaust just a "Y" pipe between the manifold and muffler.

| Agree with Harry about the Fenton but

Hi All I agree with Harry about the Fenton manifold, it really is the fix for exhaust manifold problems. Having said that I'm reassembling my HUP with the original style manifold just because the HUP is otherwise original. I think I can get away with it because the HUP doesn't have to work the engine as hard as the bigger trucks. On my C60S I ran the stock manifold for years having to replace the manifold gaskets about once a year because they would develop leaks and twice I replaced the manifolds with better condition ie flat and not eroded ones. Reason for failure I'm pretty sure was the newer gas with just runs hotter and the big trucks tend to have to throttle positions on the floor and all the way up. The Fenton two piece manifold was the solution I put it on and that was the last time I had to touch it for nearly 10 years. When I swap up to the 261 engine I used the same Fenton manifolds so far no exhaust leak. I would add a comment from a CCKW expert he suspects that the manifold gasket problem is three fold: one the new gaskets are not made of asbestos, two the new gas just burns hotter, three the replacement mufflers cause to much back pressure. His fix new muffler punch extra holes inside the muffler, little more noise but less back pressure. Just to add to the info here is another view of the pipe. Cheers Phil
