My 52 M38 CDN also has the hinged licence plate mount. I always thought it was a civy add on but now with these other ones cropping up Im not so sure And to top it off Ive never seen one on a civy jeep anyway.

Thanks for the input on the plate...as for the holes I will weld them up. Not sure what it was there...and thanks Frank yes i have the three holes in the right fender for the tuner mount I was thininking that because it had that it may have had a brace added at a later time to stabilize it as it bacame weaker.

Still have to ask about the grill being hinged.

How many bolts do you need to remove to tilt it forward?
Thanks guys Casey

You don't have to remove the ones on the fender. You just back them off, the holes are slotted. I can't remember if the rad is mounted to the grill with 4 or 6 bolts. You may also have to disconnect some of the wiring, especially if it has had turn signals added.

While you have it off, invest in a rad comb. They are cheap, and will straighten all those bent fins that are on every rad. It restores the airflow, and looks good too.

Thanks Rob I really don't want to start taking out bolts that just snap any way till after the insurance...so the fewer the better! I'll try it!

Got the bolts out without a snap!
There were 4 on the rad shroud and 3 down each side on the fenders...and yes you are correct they didn't have to be taken out just loosened off. Undo the wiring connectors for the headlights and the whole grill assembly tilts forward neatly. Comes off and can be wired and worked on separately..
Why did they do away with this in CDN 2's and 3's? Seems like a good way to get at the engine for a re and re as well?
More cleaning to do now...

Here are some pic's showing the tilted grill and the headlight protectors doing what they were there to do and why...
