Of course if you have a Ford, you need to show off the emblem, hence the hole. But if you have a chev......oh well.
Funny that with the wartime pressures, they would waste any time and effort sewing in that extra hole just to give Ford some minor bit of advertising. But then again, someday that war was going to end, and they were going to want the post depression/post war sales that would be coming.
