Kukri knives
There is a proper name for the little knives that accompany every genuine Kukri. If your grandfather was in India, the provenance cannot be disputed. The only question is the quality. Is this a tourist trade item or a genuine work tool. I'd favour the second, even though the little bits might seem flimsy at first.

Going from what I have seen in India/Nepal this is more than likely to be a souvenir. If you look at any issue kukris or working kukris which the locals still use they are far more robust. I don't think your item would stand up to serious wood chopping (or head lopping!)
