It looks normal to me: the word petrol but with a little bit of paint surrounding it. Perhaps some winter cam?
The photo was likely taken during Op Eskimo. Lots of good photos in the series of 3 books if you come across them.

When I blow this pic up...
it looks like the can is quit a bit narrower than the rest in line. To much time on my hands, need to get back on the golf course. Cheers Rob
