On the Chevs they have a mixture of bracing on top and below with the larger spacing on the C15A and sigvan and a 2 inch spacing and below brace on the C60L, I am assuming it is to allow for spare tyre removal without wiping out the filler
The Ford tanks I have all seem to have 6 inch spacing with below brace

SO no idea
Probably a model difference thing
