Hi Tony
I was told it served there due to the fact the army green had been painted over in portland stone. You could see parts that were still green under many of the panels but could easy see the stone colour on the outside of the truck. Now as i said this is all new to me so this could be quite wrong so im just going on advice from a chap i know, maybe someone painted it here but im not sure. Anyway to find out ![]()

Hi Shane
Your truck has the roof hatch as fitted to Australian issue F60L cab 12s. It is extremely unlikely to have served anywhere other than Australia or perhaps New Guinea. Also the colour it was in when you got it is faded khaki, not portland stone - khaki fades to a very similar colour. The ones with Middle East service were a much smaller number of Chevrolet cab 12s which were issued there and brought back to Australia. If it didn't have a roof hatch that would be more likely to have had overseas service. Also the Supply/Mech contract number on your data plateS/M OR C/D 2037 is for Australian delivery. Quote:

Hi Shane- my research established the colour as Light Stone. I am restoring an F15 and will finish up with this colour. I obtain all my paint from Protec in the Port and they have all the formulas. The base paint is their engine enamel.

H, the only difference between a cab 12 and cab 13 chassis are the brake and clutch pedals and the fact it has two front cab mounts. The radiator and engine mounts are identical.

You may have a carrier radiator, they turn up in CMPs sometimes. My cab 13 F60L from Ian Styles has acquired one at some stage. They have stepped down bottom outlets which result in a kinked bottom hose when fitted to CMPs, as seen in pic 1. You may not have noticed when removing it but you can't help but notice when trying to refit one! It's possible some commercial trucks had this type of bottom outlet too, however you can identify a carrier radiator by the union in the overflow pipe, as seen in pics 2 & 3.

I agree Shane, I reckon they look stunning in desert scheme. As you say there's plenty of khaki green around, so yours will certainly stand out from the crowd. In effect it will be a ME replica, except for the hatch. In due course you could build a body and paint some AIF markings on to complete the picture.

Hi Shane - no worries, I will hang onto it for you. I think there was enough advice supporting the usage of this radiator.

Hello all.
Hoping that this is the door that will fit my cab 12 can anyone let me know ![]() Hoping that someone out there has another if this door is correct. Not much to report on the truck (as far as photos go) but in the background the cab is almost done as is the motor. Have got new bolts for the truck and they are black in colour may even decide not to paint them as i think they would look good against the portlandstone. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I recently restored a passenger side door on my truck. If you go to the soft skin forum and search for the thread F60L recent pics you will see what I had to do.
A note -you can save the screws that hold the map pocket to the inside of the door, by heating them before removing them. I suggest you do this to save them you will not find replacements... You will also discover restoring the door and lock are two separate projects as is fitting the door to the vehicle.
