Rich, Is that angle iron dimension not in Nigels Vol 3 book, in the drawing box?, If not can measure for you. I think that angle iron has a 'kink' in it both ends.
kev.

Yes that's right Kev it kinks where the armour squares are, I have done this with mine... To be totally honest I completely forgot to check the plans box that came with Nigel's book, so with that in mind, and a red face I might add, I will run through to the dining room and check

Hi Richie,
You are making good progress now it seems. Well done so far! Glad you finally updated your thread. Like to keep up with your resto. Thanks. It was nice meeting you at W&P even if it was just for a short moment. I do hope you will be there next time with your Carrier! Cheers,

Yes mate the very same it is riveted to the centre bulkhead and has the kinks in it where it meets the armour squares in the corners.
Cheers, thought for a moment I was going to have to jump in my car and pop down to the Bovington tank museum.

The Tank museum is certainly worth a visit if you come down this way on holiday or something. It is supposed to be a TANK museum, but some exhibits have ended up there by default and not strictly correct if somewhat related.
Here are the carriers. Ron |

erm...... none I think, cant recall if Nigels was Canadian or British.
however I beleive Bens are both british built (Scout / Bren) i wont cheat and trawl the threads though. Shauns could possibly be a Brit Mk1 i have not had a close look at it yet. EDIT: nope his are both Canadian built

Those fixtures date back to when the Carrier was used as a test rig at Chertsey. All to do with variable ground pressure when experimenting with the ideas of hovercraft.

Exactly so Richard. I was going to post up the Museum right up, but you've mostly covered it. The museum list it as a MK2 when in fact I'm sure it's a MK3. It's got strange tanks and piping inside. I'd love to get hold of it and make it correct. They disagree at the museum, stating that it is part of the history of the vehicle. To my mind it was something that was worthless at the time and a suitable hunk of iron to use as a test bed for other purposes. Their logic suggests that anyone who has retrieved a loggers carrier should leave it as such?? Next time I'm there I'll take some more pictures. Ron
PS sorry to high-jack Richards thread. I'll start a new one when I take pictures. Last edited by Ron Pier; 10-08-13 at 13:18. |

I have left some things as they were on mine there is evidence of a winch being bolted to the glacis then cut out with a gas axe...I suppose the carrier above has its own story to tell..... But to leave a log skidder carrier like mine (and many others) as chopped up hulks s nuts.
