Nice pics, what's the story behind them?

As far as we know this is an "Indian pattern" Heavy Utility, Personnel. Based on a C8A chassis/cab.

No story unfortunately. I found these at LAC, uncaptioned and no reference to a file. DND often received information on vehicles from the UK and Australia but rarely from India.

Enjoying this revitalised thread and would like to know if anyone can help me with details of the backbody on these vehicles. Dimensions and anymore photos. Construction details with type of wood used, and where was this vehicle used, apart from Burma.
You guessed, am considering building backbody!

Hello Nigel,

Good to hear about you are considering building an "Indian Pattern Heavy Utility", for lack of a proper / official designation.

As for dimensions, I would contact Mr. Manmohan Sahani in India via the Canadian Register as he owns the (sole?) surviving example - see my posting above.

Also contact William Spence (see top of this thread) as he built a replica.

Seeing the body was built in Asia, I reckon it was built using tropical hardwoods.

PS: maybe Keith could help by digging out the pictures in his posting of which the link no longer works - all the more reason to attach pictures to one's postings

Unfortunately, Bill passed away almost 2 years ago. He was a man of class and is missed in our organization.

I was never sure why his passion was so strong for the Burma Buggy, as he took apart a very viable HUP project in order to make it. But I guess each of us has his own quirks of passion, and it could have been something as simple as a photograph on this forum.

I did not know and I am sorry to hear that. I now see he was last active on here in October 2009 and have deactivated his account.

Glad to hear he was able to finish his HUP project.

These abandoned photo's were found when I was clearing out the late Les Bradby's home at Marsh Lane, Ashton. Other Bradby family photo's can be found on my set Lost Faces of Bristol. This set is all about Les Bradby's war experience, he was in Burma with the airforce, involved in communication and anti-aircraft as far as I know, but if anyone can tell me more then please do. This is my tribute to a man I never knew, but who lived a full and interesting life and should not be forgotten. "

Interesting link Hanno. I had a look around that website and found these pics attached. Even though the trucks are obviously not CMP', to me it looks a lot like the Holmes wrecking gear and rear bodies were sourced from CMP wreckers!
