You are pretty close, Scrivo....

Yellow Truck and Coach Company, a Division of GMC.


D = design year 1942
U = amphibian
K = front wheel drive
W= rear wheel drive

So, too ....
CCKW is 1941, C=standard cab; K & W as above
AFKWX is 1939, F = Forward cab, K & W as above .... X special long wheel base chassis.
