So,
I offer my apologies to the seller (Brunno) of the extinguisher, if what I said is "poor form" in the eyes of my peers but I will counter by saying as others have that I am giving my opinion. Being blunt is a very British trait and we (those of us who are of British birth) are often get called rude when infact we are being economical and honest, if I wanted to be rude I could with ease but have no reason to. I am sure the seller isn't going to be reaching for the Kleenex box and dialing the therapist because of what I said. I stand by by my post and would do the same again. Just want to reply as I am being singled out and want to close the loop on this. Thanks very much Robin |

Gentlemen, I don't see that either of you have said anything particularly inflammatory or barbed. I have read & re read this thread, looking for what was so bad to have said. Haven't found it! I think I must share the same frank gene. No point in beating around the bush, but I do acknowledge that in situations where you don't get the luxury of using spoken word, things can sometimes be mistaken for being 'rude', when you really only wanted to get a point across with minimal typing to do so.
For the record, I have sent PMs to several people (ebay mostly), correcting stated information or advising of other issues which have been inaccurate, only to see that nothing was changed as a result of the enlightenment. Guess it depends on the motivation. And no, my comments do not relate in any way to the author of this thread, who I do not know, and have no reason to doubt his motives. I'm tempted to buy the item in question, just to take the curse of this thread. Postage would be a killer though. Pity, I like the extinguisher, and wouldn't mind giving it a new home in Australia.

Hi Brunno, and welcome.
Chris there was nothing wrong with your first post. It was quite neutral. Just my opinion. When we are trying to sell stuff at a swap meet or what ever event, and someone offers an opinion about a price, and the do it in a tactless way, it might send one or two potential buyers off into the sunset, but a negative post on this close knit forum, to all intents and purposes, has effectively closed down the possibility of the sale. To be fair to each other, I would think that if the listing seems reasonable (ie not misleading) then if the price is too high (personal veiw) then probably we should not comment other than (as has already been suggested) by pm. Just another (fair minded??) opinion. Not wishing to offend anyone.

Tony, I too have responded to vendors by PM whther it be eBay, MLU or other places to "correct" them on misleading or incorrect info as well.
Sometimes I have been ignored, other times thanked but many times told to piss off and mind my business.

I have already sold the extinguisher. When i wrote the price, i checked an old one who was sold for a price higher than mine, few months ago.
So, i don't want give my stuff and i know that people always negociate the price. If i had wrote 40$ dollars, i am sure that someone would buy the item for 15$. You don't like price !! Offer are welcome !! Better than write bad comment on a post. |

Link above shows the same thing without the bracket for the same price, so the original asking was not out of line. And since you can lower your price once listing an item as opposed to raising it during the negotiation phase, you are right Brunno....someone would want it for less than the price of postage. Bruno, you nailed it.
I do not believe I would be out of line writing for everyone in this thread in sending you anything but good wishes. I have met both Chris and Robin personally a number of times over the past few years. My own experience is they are salt of the earth folks who would give you the shirt off their back to help you with a project, or any other need for that matter. .... In spite of their parsimonious evaluation of your cold weather Ansul, which they were able to articulate themselves. ![]() |
