most of the 16inch wheel models in this longer wheelbase had a rating of 30cwt and not 3 ton. BUT most of these to my knowledge had 134inch wheelbases not 158 inch. so it is a puzzle

I found this factory photo of a 13 cab LWB 'office' on 16inch rims. This photo came from Service publications Factory Photo CD. Note the factory fitted spare wheel mount!

In my idea , I think that some 158 wheel base truck had 1050X16 tires because may be there was a lack of tire 1050X20. So for the truck with dental body or any truck which had only to be drive on good road it was most easy to put such little wheels. For other they had 1050X20 tires.
Worl of CMP is so complex !!!!! |

Serge,
That very same truck was offered for sale on MLU - see Restored C-60L Cab13 For Sale. The contract number PE-197 has come up in discussions before, somehow these were ordered by the Australians but never delivered. It seems they were indeed factory fitted with 16" wheels. These were normally used for Ambulance, Dentist trucks etc. Regards, Hanno

Possibly so that there did not have to be wheel boxes in the body ( more room ) and to keep the body low due to height. regards Richard

The roof hatch suggests this vehicle was built late 44 or 45. There were a lot of British Contract vehicles built here in Canada in 45 for certain, that the British never took delivery of and the Canadian Gov't took delivery of them. Many have showed up surplus and never issued, even to the Canadian military.
Could these vehicles have made it so far into the delivery system, before Australia also decided it was too late in the war to worry about delivery and they were diverted to other customers? Be interesting to know the production date for this truck, or more details about the Australian order: when placed and completion status. Nice unusual CMP never the less. David |

Hello
Following the discussion, I remenbered to have seen a similar truck with "little wheels". After searching in my collection of thousands pics I find these two pics. The truck was in BELTRING in 1996 and registered in BELGIUM. It is a FORD CANADA F60L with circular roof hatch, push barr before the front bumper; and cabestan at the end of the differential so belonging to the last series of 1945 Unhappily I have no pic of the spare wheel housing. Having spook with the owner, he told me that the purpose of the little wheels was to store the truck in a shed !!!! Regards Serge |
