as I understand it, it was used as a fireing step. The togglerope, or a number of them would be attached to a suitable position and then the sniper could elevate himself up onto a fireing position by standing on the metal step. The toggle rope in the ebay add is too thin. John.

Awkward to get on and awkward to get off, it seems to be a fairly useless item as both feet would have to arrive at exactly the same time unlike any ladder arrangement Ive ever encountered. Either it's a folly or there is more to the story.

I am trying to find out more about the toggle rope step, as I also have one in my collection. Can you please advise what information is given in the Vocabulary of Ordnance Stores, ref. AE 0154 ? Thanks in advance! |
