Default Need to establish the following....

What size engine are you using...?

The 216 has a 6 volt special starter gear that needs to be matched to the ring gear.

The 235 has a different starter gear and matching ring gear and is 12 volts.

A good NAPA or Benson auto part store should be able to get you a rebuilt starter but will need to know if its for a Chev. mid 1950 235 12 volts or a 1942 - 49 216 6 volt starter.

Look for the oldest guy at the parts counter.

Cheers
