I wondered whether the GMC 270 as used in CMPs was in fact assembled in the Chevrolet Flint Motor Plant, rather than GMC's Pontiac, Michigan Plant.

There is a workshop manual for C60X up for auction at ebay, but it is very expensive. I have a original copy of the illustrated spare parts list for C60X, and as I don't have a C60X I am willing to trade it.

I have been trying to find out the differences in the above engines . I have just about finished a CCKW and would like to start on a C60X in the future . I have taken 270 's out of a wrecked C60X and a CCKW and they were Staghound engines having the left and right engine numbers eg, ACR 4249 and ACL XXXX ( lost the note it was written on ). The main difference I could see with the staghound eng , was the crank was longer in the front to support the twin pully harmonic balancer and the rear main cap had 4 bolts instead of 2 . Main bearings seemed to be identical . Exhaust manifolds were obviously different between the three vehicles , with the exhaust outlet on a CCKW coming straight down , the staghound out the front of the engine and the C60X on an angle to the rear of the vehicle . Common parts between a 270 and a CMP 216 are the water pump , distributor , camshaft timing gear , front engine mount , timing cover , harmonic balancer ( cckw ) fuel pump , thermostat housing ( not outlet ) cam followers , exhaust valves , valve guides . I have a std staghound block that I would like to rebuild and would like to know what the differences are before I start . Would appreciate any info .

I'm going to have to go back and get more pics of this truck, aren't I? Some of the more obvious external differences: The "Harmonic Balancer" on the front of the C60X crank is a press on fit with internal slot for hand crank handle, CCKW is a slide on fit with a retaining bolt with starter dog (like Ford). C60X 270 makes 125hp at 3000rpm, CCKW is governed to 2700rpm, NOT TO BE EXCEEDED. C60X distributor has vacuum advance/retard plus internal flyweights, CCKW just flyweights. I don't have a parts book for a CCKW or DUKW, so can't compare part numbers, but if anyone else does, we can solve some riddles. |

Thanks for the pictures Hanno , I can see that the water pump is definately different , I cannot work out why they would have left and right engines in the engine serial numbers ie, acl and acr , maybe this was to make it clear that they were different from truck engines ?.
