Looks liike it bounced around a bit during it's service life. It is recorded as having sold for $2324 on disposal.

Its Western life probably explains why the tub is so solid.
After about an hour of tinkering I have it running. Runs well and no smoke or weird noises. Not too bad considering it was last run over 6 years ago.
A couple strange items to note:
The original tub serial number plate is present, 99921 which is CFR 08715 as noted. The original data plates were swapped out for a set from 1967, likely sometime as I heard plates were often mismatched during paint parties.
The other odd item is a hinged grill. Maybe a replacement from a cannibalized jeep?
Everything else is for sure a 1970 model

Also Rob, is there any way to establish specific unit use of said Jeep or was its presence at Wainwright or Moosr Jaw just that of a motorpool vehicle to be signed out to whomever needed it?

No, ownership cannot go any further than the parent unit. The information only lists the parent unit (ie Moose Jaw) and not the lodger units which woudl include just about any militia unit in Saskatchewan. That is where paint removal will become important.

As well, some of the modifications like GPMG mounting may give an indicator as to which unit had it.

As to the grill, when we would go to the manual, it gave us an NSN for a grill. Unless you found the Cdn2/Cdn3 stock number in the parts manual supplements, you ended up with the 1953 parts.

When I was in, we ordered the welting for the top of the grill. Supply was out of it, so they sent us the next higher assembly, which was a complete grill (hinged).

I often saw data plates swapped out after it's military life. Often it was to circumvent export rules to the US. A Cdn 2 was old enough to head south, but a Cdn 3 could not.As well, Shilo was a base that, with little else to do in the 80s, got tasked with rebuilding (often by mix and match) written off Jeeps to extend the life of the fleet. Our example in the museum does not have matching numbers, nor did one I bought locally a couple years ago.

This Jeep does not have the usual militia mount for a gpmg. Also, radio mounting seems to be for driver side only.
An unusual item on this one is the axe bracket on the passenger side rear fender. I have never seen this on a Canadian Jeep.

Can't say I have ever seen that either. How about some more detailed photos.

The lack of a GPMG mount merely discounts it from a light recce militia unit. Since it was in MooseJaw, the Sask Dragoons would have been most likely. But since it is not Sask D, then it could be just about any of the other Saskatchewan district units.

Radio tray mounting holes, driver's side only. The reinforcement brackets do exist for radio gear under both fenders however.

My Canadian M38A1 has the same axe bracket. It appears to be original to the vehicle.

The hinges on the frame require holes that were not on the Cdn3. Can you take a photo of the inner frame just over the front mounts of the rear spring? There would be a re-enforcing plate on the Cdn3 that would not be on the earlier frames.

Also, are your seat belt mounting points re-enforced with square plates welded under the body, or with large round washers?

And what of the rear right light. Is it mounted over the body, or recessed into the body?

Are the hood hinges the open style, or closed?

Will get some more pics re mounting points for 53 grill.
Currently there is a piece of angle aside the inner frame, looks like a civvy mod for mounting a winch.
The ds has 2014 stamped into it which I have seen on other late frames I think.
Also for the seat belts they are with square washers.
The hood hinges are the closed type.
The rr tail light is mounted atop the unique Canadian CDN3 bracket, not recessed.
The rear axle is a full floater and brakes are 10"

Seems odd, that radio would have been situated on the driver's side, since the power point and add-on spare tire antenna kit are on the passenger side.

BTW, looks like your jeep was the 215th produced on a contract run of 596.

Well Jon, all I have is the evidence in front of me.
Yes, the power is on the RH side but the cable cover is in place to route the cable across the rear floor to the driver side.
I did not note any extra holes on the pass side fender.
Maybe not so odd as the original axe bracket is there and would have been removed for a radio tray.
Also, the driver side rear corner has holes for mounting the later type corner style mount for the antenna.
I will see how my trays fit up to the existing holes in the fender, I have both. C42 and 524 tray to use.
Of interest, there is also a clip just to the right of the driver for what appears to be a radio mike handset...

I had a chance to take a better look at my grill.
The grill is a 1970 with the center mount. The frame matches this and has the reinforced, boxed frame rails.
What is weird about this setup is that it also has hinges on the grill and frame the same as a 1953 version. Why? who knows...
The frame hinges look like they were added for sure.
