I've never ground down the rims and have installed new Denman 9x16 and those 1050X16 from specialty tire with no problem I've seen 8-10 different civil tires on rims.

I took five 9:00 x 16 3/4 ton tires in to the local old timer tire
guy 20 years ago to put on my CMP rims. I asked him if the 5 degree would make a difference. He said he knew about it and not to worry. They went on. looked great and still run great after 20 years. Use heavy duty good quality American made tubes. Don't reuse the old ones. Peter Simundson |

I will just have to keep searching for someone willing to install for me.
I have a local tire company who will sell tires to me, just won't install them. |

Can you tell me how to contact "Specialty Tyre" and do they have a website?

I bought mine from Wallace Wade, delivered to the MVPA convention. He has connections in the northeast to have them shipped to a border town. I do that in BC because I'm very close to the border. (oops, I see you are in New Zealand, they ship worldwide and I do recommend the 1050x16!

Don't go to places that deal regular automotive tires. You need to find yourself a shop that does heavy trucks, tractors and construction equipment. Those guys aren't scared to deal with our oddball stuff.

Specialty Tires of America is a manufacturer and as far as I know doesn't sell direct. http://www.stausaonline.com/ They sell through many of the restoration and speed equipment suppliers.
I also bought my 10.50x16s from Wallace Wade http://www.wallacewade.com/ although the website seems down at the moment. https://www.cokertire.com/tires/styl...and-truck.html (Coker may suggest that tires made by STA are "Coker" tires) https://www.universaltire.com/truck-.../military.html http://www.lucasclassictires.com/Mil...k-Tires_c6.htm http://www.summitracing.com/int/sear...illocation=int http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...=military+tire and probably many more. Pricing and shipping price/policy can vary considerably, research for your needs and location is suggested. I installed my own 10.50x16 tires and am by no means an expert tire installer. |

I generally use summit racing as their shipping is either included or very very reasonable (like maybe $25 a tire tops). That is, of course, to your nearest border outlet.

Well Rob, things from Summit racing are very expensive freight wise, when it comes in this direction.
Just my opinion.

I find that as soon as you try and ship anything across borders, the shipping gets atrocious. So I have no doubt that trying to ship a tire from North America to your location is going to be crazy. The same deal goes here. To try and ship tires from the US to Canada can cost as much or more than the tire itself. But having things shipped in the US and picking them up in the US provides massive savings.Mind you, our dollar has taken a nosedive as of late, so the trips to the border have been fewer these days. |

Are you aware of Russell Holden in NSW? He is a lot closer to you & deals in parts & tires - tyres by the time they get there. He often organises a container out of California to Au. & offers to move parts, etc. for other collectors - (mostly early Cadillac) I have had several pleasant dealings with him. He probably has a good way of shipping from Au. to NZ. Russell & Chris Holden Old World Lamps & Tyres www.Oldworldlamps.net PO Box 786 Mudgee, NSW, 2850 h 0422 219 911 International 61 422 219 911 |
