I was at my friends place the other day a the topic of the rifle clips came up and their mounting brackets. As I have a cab 13 I have seen the longer bracket for them but he had 3 different types, The longer one I have seen in the cab 13s and 2 shorter styles one strait and one bent and my question is what were the 2 different shorter ones used in possibly the cab 11 and 12s ??
Also he had a couple different rifle clips ones black and ones in a grey coating and marked 1940 and 44 |

The longer one is for the cab 13.... the second picture should be for cab 11 / 12. Reason is the back wall of the cab 13 is not as tall as the cab 11/ 12. Early ones seems to have leather, than followed by rubber but as time good bad plain steel spring. The very short one are for a variety of specific use.....UC.... inside radio truck. HUP... other armoured vehicles. Cheers

Does any one have spare the wider type clip, used for the butt end of a riffle when its mounted in clips only. its about one cm wider ?

As far as I know the cab 13 long arm and the cab 11/12 short arm both have straight arm...... they mount almost at the same location and angle....... the lenght is to make up the height differences between the back wall of the cab 13 ( lower back wall)and the cab11/12.
From the angle of the twist on the black one.... it is either a junk yard modification .....or the rifle holder is intended for another type of vehicle.... I am thinking of HUP, radio box 2K1 or large cab13 workshops where rifles were tucked in corners. Not sure how they were set up in a 800cwt cab11/12 but would put a dollar (now worth 0.69 cents) on similar mounting as 15 cwt. If the gas gets any cheaper I may go back to hot rodding 455 c.i. Pontiac engines...... Cheers

Ok, the picture only shows the one but there are a left and right bracket and they are both bent the same degree.

As a tip if you are restoring these you will find that often times the rubberized coating is either gone or cracked. I used black plastic dip coating which is used for tool handles. Several dips and you can build back up to OEM specs. You can but it at Home Hardware.

There is also a third short type.
I have one out of a cab 13 truck and it is only 4 inches long. I assume it was for a Sten or Thompson smg.

Your twisted brackets are factory twist, I have several pairs of matched left and right with a twist. I have not bothered yet to determine what their particular application is compared to a flat bar mount and I won't throw out an unsubstantiated theory until I've actually done some research to back it up.

Two comments.... Your clip arms do not appear to be as twisted as the one posted by super Super Dave.... ..and they appear, if you move your fingers to have only 2 holes.... I have noted that the cab 13 here at thebarn have two holes on the cab 13 and 3 holes intended for machined screws 1/4 20 I beleive. Do you arms have two or 3 holes??? Will send you a PM on the NOS ones....since my cab 11 was before the rubber shortages the rubber ones would be approriate. Just when you think you have it figured out....something else pops up.... cheers

I see that Dave`s twisted brackets are the shorter ones I presume are for a cab 11or12, mine are the longer cab 13 style and have 2 diagonal holes for mounting to the cab and 3 holes to attach the rifle clip at the top.

Dave to add a bit of input to your post. The Australian No.6., Tractors Artillery contained 2 of the types shown in your images plus an extra for the Bren LMG. There is one of the longer type either side of the Cab 13 as with most I imagine however the crew cab has the shorter variety clips plus buckets for the butts of 5x.303 rifles. The weapons were attached east west rather than magazine forward as with the 2 in the front. There is an extra position on the driver's side of the crew cab that held the LMG which was part of the scale of issue for said vehicle. There are a couple of mounts on the passenger side that may well have accommodated a Thompson SMG. I trust the attached pics are of interest. Cheers...Rod

I'm getting ready to fit two spring steel rifle clips to the Chev.
I've seen photos of new leather sewn over the whole of the spring clip sides, but wondered if anyone has a photo of the original leather lining in place? Thanks
