Any Scholars of Latin here?
Hello Latin Scholar types,
Is there are word or style that reflects a transition or intervention from one state to another as in the English term "to"? As in after working on my military truck I transitioned from sadness to happiness? Or in some cases - after working intensely on an unsuccessful project on my military vehicle I transitioned from happiness to frustration. So due to an event I transitioned from one state to another where the division between the two states is noted by a Latin equivalent of "to" as in from Sadness to Happiness Kind Regards Lionel

Ad, as in 'Per Ardua ad Astra", RAAF (RAF, RCAF, RNZAF, etc) motto meaning "Through adversity, to the stars".

I took Latin in high school. What an involved language! Two years and we could come up with basic sentences.

Have you been drinking, Lionel!
You're not trying to edumicate us to a higher state of confusion are ya? If I remember what was written in the cover of a Latin textbook I used to have... Latin is a language, dead as dead can be. It killed an ancient race, and now it's killing me. ....or should it be Morte?

Trying to edumicate myself a wee bit. Developing a motto as such. When I studied Farm Management - Horticulture a compulsory subject was Horticultural Science which was Botany with a commercial bent. Also studied Plant Identification. Both subjects had a heavy emphasis on Latin. So in our case it was a living and breathing language literally. It is also a tad addictive. Kind Regards Lionel

Hi Lionel
For two years from the ages of 6-8, my daughter took Latin. Took to it like a fish. At that time she (and all her classmates )were doing very well. Switched to French and now she can't recall a thing!! I use this: https://translate.google.ca/ "ad" seems to be the word. Tristitia ad beatitudinem. I prefer: "Romanes Eunt Domus" errr...I mean "Romani Ite Domum" regards Darrell |
