From the info that I have it appears that LdSH was the only Regiment in 5CAD to be issued Firefly tanks in Italy. Also I think that only one Regiment in 1CAB received them. It may have being the Ontario Regiment (11CAR) because it is the senior regiment of the Brigade. I know that the Three Rivers Regiment did not have Fireflies in Italy.
Can Anybody confirm this? If it is not the 11th, do you know if there were any Fireflies issued to the 1CAB at all in Italy?

Updated information. It was the Calgary Regiment , and not the Ontario Regiment which were issued with Firefly tanks in Italy. The Ontario Regiment only received the 17 pdr Shermans after their move to NWE in March 1945. Note that all Canadian Armoured Regiments in Italy did receive six 105mm Sherman IBs in the fall of 1944.

Thank you, John. Where do you have that info from about the Calgary regiment receiving Fireflies in Italy? Is it in the book you linked? If yes which page?

The AFV Situation Report for 5th Army Group 14 February 1945, shows that 1CAB had 152 75mm Sherman Vs (M4A4), 11 17 pdr Sherman IC (M4), 18 105mm Sherman IB (M4), 2 Grant T2 ARV (M31), 2 Valentine Bridge layers and 33 Stuart Recce. (Note that the web site that I saved this information from no longer works)

The information that 14CAR received the 17 pdr Shermans 1C comes from CMHQ Report No 175, para 45. Note that from the AFV returns 14 CAR did not receive any 76mm Sherman 1As.

Thank you.

How about the Info about Lord Strathcona. Can you confirm (and maybe give me your source about the Straths being the only Regiment in 5CAD fielding Fireflies in Italy?

Also would they (at least at the start of the campaign) have had Sherman IIIs?

If not the Straths who else in the I. Canadian Corps would have fielded them?
Didn't the 5th take over the Desert Rats' equipment, which I assumed included Sherman IIIs.

No Sherman III in LdSH. They did not take the tanks from 7AD. but waited for new Sherman Vs (M4A4)
