Can anyone say how they liked or disliked sending items by U ship across Canada?

Robin I have used UShip many times to have items moved. Everything from a small crate to whole vehicles.
It can be a challenge sometimes to find the right deal but I have always ended up with good service for a fair price. Never had any issues and have even used them for US/Canada cross border moves. Usually I will have US based carrier drop at a US address and pick up myself. The main advantage of this service is getting large, heavy or otherwise bulky items moved reasonably, especially when the cost is prohibitive via Post or Courier. Some examples of prices I have paid: I had a 2-1/2 Ton transmission shipped from Louisiana to Buffalo for $125.00USD. I brought my M725 Kaiser Jeep from Ohio to Guelph for $1000CAN and the carrier took care of the brokerage and Customs issues. Hoist and Parts for my M6 Chev bomb truck from TX to MI for $300USD The nice thing is if you find a good shipper you can always keep them as a contact for later outside of UShip. I found the minimum bid makes a big difference whether the offer gets picked up. It works like a reverse auction, so give the trucker enough margin.
In the M151A2 purchase, the first successful bidder backed out at the last minute. The deal sat idle for a month when I relisted. That shipper picked up and brought the Jeep from west of Edmonton to Ottawa. He also shook me down for another $500 off the books because of fees the company charges. Terry

Terry, sorry to hear of your experience. UShip, like eBay and other online sites, does have resolution options as well as a rating system to vett companies.
It is buyer beware like everything else these days . In your particular situation I would not have let the shipper shake me down for anything over and above the agreed on price. This is a clear violation of the policies and agreement to use Uship. |

I would have to agree with Chris on his points and also Terry on his. Bottom line "buyer beware". Just make sure you got all your ducks in order. And Chris its right about the "shake down". I just went through this on Craig's list this weekend. BUT the young punk hasn't seen or heard the last of me!!
My experience with U Ship was good, but as Chris says, once you make the introduction, you can always do your deals outside the game. Fellow I used was from the Ottawa area, Dutch fellow, with a heavy duty pickup and a heavy duty long trailer. very good pricing and right on top of it.....HOWEVER....when he came for the pickup....Jesus Mary and Joseph the BO smell was bigger tan the truck and trailer combined. Beyond words!! Couldn't get him packed up and outa' here quick enough. Can't say whether Mr. Bergeron experienced the same on his end. My latest episode was putting a deal together over the phone, paying the driver for delivery....but getting no promised receipt!! I phoned them before Christmas and they promised it would be done but never did happen. Now I'm on the hook for a personal tax, where I could have written it off as a business expense. So, as I said, make sure you've got all your ducks in order....but even then there are no guarantees! My 2 cents......Robert ![]() |

I wouldn't like to add that there are a great many number of companies who bid and book loads on Uship. Some are small one man operations, others are large trucking companies and then there are brokers who merely put driver and shipper together.
Read the reviews left for the individual you are dealing with to get an idea on what you are buying |
