Dale, some Ford hubs have a metal ring that slides on the splined washer. Some have a leather seal bonded to them. Some don't have a seal at all. If your carrier is a flat land machine, you probably don't need outer seals. I think most problems here are from where they are parked, rather than driven. (make sense?) Also you can use grease in your wheel bearings rather than oil. This way, the risk of lube leaking through the inner seal to the brakes is reduced.
Make sure the tell tale hole in the backing plates is clear.
The bearings are standard timken (inner and outer, cups and cones)
If you want I can find numbers. Timken made bearings for Ford with Ford part numbers, Then there are Timken numbers, Bower was another supplier.
They are the same as a F15-60 or C15-60 CMP, I think?
Try the man at Hervey bay? He is possibly good for outer seals if you can't find them in another Ford axle?

Post #8 refers to diff bearings.
Timken 3920 is Ford BB-4222
Timken 3984 is Ford BB-4221-B
The outer bearing is Timken53375 cup and 53176 cone.
The drill bit in the axle shows the tell tale hole.
The Ford 8 sided spanner is shown.
I have not hunted for pictures of the outer hub seals.
Inner hub seal BB-1175-c is shown in the last photo. It is held in the hub by a circlip.

Excellent timing Lynn . My bearing guy was going to take a far bit of time to convert ford numbers over to Timken I've just past on info from you he was happy with that , Nigel is digging through this parts he has some inner seals somewhere .Dale

Hi Dale,
The bearings are used on the Ferguson and Fordson Dexta tractors, think they are the diff ones but cannot confirm as not got the details to hand but easy to obtain and reasonable prices.

Is it best to pre load the brake rod onto the 635-3 LEVER BRAKE OPERATING I notice when brakes are off it's sitting just above the wedge brake operating ball ? Dale

Hi Dale, I take it you have noticed this with your drum off, which probably to get the drum off the shoes have been slackened back?, so with drum on and adjusted right, there should be positive "feel" Make sure you centralise the shoes first and then adjust the top and then maybe back to the bottom to readjust the centralising of the shoes and then back to the top again for clearance. I have my drums machined and the shoes radius so they are exact. This is why some carriers get a poor reputation for handling because the brakes are not properly set up . My carrier could idle around in it,s own length, and obviously when you run your carrier and they get hot , you also have to make sure you are not too tight on your clearance between drum and shoe. There is no place for a feeler gauge like jeeps have, that they use to check your clearance, it is all done by "feel". Cheers Andrew.

With drums off , as I'm new to this older brakes setting up stuff ! when I'm playing with set up , to see how things work under the brake drums , looks like the bottom adjustment moves it left to right and top opens and closes the top of brakes shoes . Am I on track with that comment or am I missing something
