Default Long radio warning decal

I believe that radio decal originated with the M113 series vehicles. I did see it on several 5 ton's (mostly wreckers that had radio installations added) as well. I have seen both adhesive decals and printed ones on Aluminum or Zinc strips.

I did have an old photo of Militia M38A1's (early 80's) from my old unit and they didn't have that decal. But then again it was an Infantry unit and no radio installation (tray and 1780 box IFIRC) was fitted, just a manpack radio so it was not getting power from the alternator so no need for the decal, must have been part of the installation kit. I didn't see the "no smoking in DND vehicles" and "headlights must be on" ones. Perhaps I didn't look close enough.

I chacked the NSNs for both the long decal and the rectangular warning decals. The long one is generic with no ERN attached to it, which indicates that there would not have been a cfto asking for it. The rectangular one does have the M113 family along with the AVGP associated with it, so it would have been in a CFTO somewhere to install that decal. The rectangular one is now obsolete.

Default It's alive...

Yes, this adventure is still alive (although it is not the highest item on my priority list right now). Actually the decals are currently at a printer who is working up a quote. He has had them for about a month, and I need to stop in to see some samples of quality before committing to him running a batch. In order to get a bit of economy of scale, I have asked him to quote me for quantities that will make 20 sets. I want two or three sets for myself, and I have a list of about six people who have contacted me for sets. The rest will be available if anyone wants them. Im not sure of all the details yet, but I should be able to describe the situation better by next week. I have been away for work a lot lately, and this project has been somewhat idle.

I will post the info here as soon as I know more.

(Robert: I have you on the list already, but no commitment needed until I have all the details)

Grant and Rick: I was sanding the inside of my battery cover today, and under some heavy brushed on paint I found the same "CAUTION" decal that you both posted. It is in the exact same location & orientation as shown in Grant's photo. I'll see if I can get this one reproduced with the others.

Default Quick update...

I guess my timeline slipped a bit. I finally had time to meet the printer today abut the decal sets. I added the "CAUTION" decal that goes under the battery cover to the order. He will run some samples for approval and then proceed with the order for 20 sets.

If all goes well with the samples and we move forward with the run, Ill contact those who have expressed interest with the cost per set. Ill pass the sets through at cost plus postage.

I should have another update in a few days.

I have received a few "sample" decals from the printer for approval. The decals in the photo below are all test-print samples. With a few minor adjustments to font, these ones will go to print.

The seatbelt warning and Canada flag decals are not up to my expectations yet, so a bit more work to be done on those... Ill have another update when those two decals have progress.

Default The decals have all been printed...

All of the decals were printed today. I ran enough to make 20 complete sets. They all came pre-masked for ease of installation. Below is a photo of what each set is made up of (9 decals per set). Keep in mind they have the white masking over the surface in this photo:
2 - Canadian Flags
2 - Fire Warning
1 - Danger Pressurized Cooling System
1 - Seat belt (CFAO 36-6)
1 - Bell housing drain plug
1 - Caution Check Battery...
1 - Warning (Intercom & Radio Equipment)

Ill be sending a PM to all of you who have requested sets. Once I get final commitments from those who expressed early interest, I will post any remaining sets for sale here.

Default Decals

I have the same caution decal on my CDN2 battery box cover. Has the decal reproduction project gone through? I will need the Canadian forces specific decals for my 1967 M38A1CDN2 UN jeep restoration project also. Please let me know!

Thanks!

I have not made much progress on the long yellow radio warning decals yet. I have Rob's sample but that's about it. Ive been busy at work, and have had trouble coordinating a meeting with the printer. ill be away until mid-November, and then Ill try to get this project kick-started again.

I still have a few sets available (as listed above).

Not surprisingly, I noticed some of these decals are on my recently acquired M37.

Jerry: Im holding one set for you.

Default Warning decals

A quick update on the long yellow radio warning decals. With thanks to Rob for providing the original sample, we now have a small run of these decals being printed. They should be ready within the next couple of weeks. The cost will be around $10 plus shipping. In addition to those who have already expressed interest above, if you would like any please advise myself or Chris Vickery.

Photo credits to Chris Vickery - the original discovered under the last coat of paint on his CDN3... same as Grant's example seen in post 19.
