There are advantages to the -35. Yesterday I was out in the workshed taking apart the steering shaft. I had already taken the one apart from this carrier and it was a bit#% to get that bottom bearing off. I had to use pullers, and liberal heat. I went to take a second shaft apart yesterday, and at -35 everything came right apart with just a light hammer; even the cast piece (CTL2865) that the steering linkages hook to slid right off the main shaft(CTL 12000). Lets see you guys in the tropics of the maritimes or Australia do that!!!
It's warmed up to -26 this morning, and believe me, that makes a difference. It's supposed to go up to -16 this afternoon.
The folding antenna base has a bit of a puzzle on it. The antnna base on it is metal, and actually appears to be a wheel bearing socket welded on to the metal plate. I haven't got around to removing it yet.
At present I am just working on components that can be brought into the shop, with the aim of getting the brakes and steering up to scratch. I had a tough time finding the bottom bearing for the shaft (a SKF # RM8); the nearest one was in Toronto at $63. A websearch showed I could possibly get one out of England @ 8Euros, but by the time I ever got it here we would be back to +26C.
