A wild guess would be 'Maintenance' and 'Service' positions for the cover plate.
Though the letters are not mentioned in the handbook surely the overhaul manual will reference them. David

We are getting there, The gun is Canadian, I have five bofors guns and one has a plaque stating made in Canada, and this one has the cover as well. I have a manual, I will try to find it again in the manual now I have an idea what to look for...

found it, looks like its just a slide cover....
On a slight side line... That handbook Ive got is missing a few of the coloured plates at the rear, plates 2 to 5, 8, 9, and 43. Id be happy to pay for copies, A large photocopier or even a photo of each missing plate would be great. Brad can you help me out with copies Adrian?
