Default Ford

From memory the civilian Ford fuel gauge system is a different concept, the sender and gauge units both have a coil surrounding a bi-metal arm and breaker contacts. With current flowing, the coil will heat up and the arm would bend and open the contacts .The gauge pointer is attached to the bi-metal arm and it will move in sync. with the sender bi-metal arm They had a capacitor fitted at the sender unit in order to reduce the spark interference to wireless sets ? . I often thought how weird it was to have a pair of sparking contacts inside a petrol tank ! The sender is a sealed unit but still , it all seems a strange way of doing things.
