Hi Pieter,

First of all, a happy new year to all of you!

I hope I can answer your question, on our artillery tractor it is mounted on the cylinder head studs.

I hope the pics will tell,

Groet,

Stefan

Default Special Head Bolts

Hi Pieter

There are special head bolts, will find photos of them and post. The good thing is that the filter body should be the military standard. There is service bulletin that covers this filter and location for the oil filter.

More information to follow.

Cheers Phil

Default No Source But Thought About How To Make

Hi Pieter

I don't have a source for them but have given it some thought if I ever needed to replace any of them. Well I've through of two ideas and lets hear from the collective knowledge of MLU as to what would be best.

1. Get a cylinder head stud of the correct size but a little long. Put the stud in with a nut and torque the head to spec. Then put on washer or spacer to bring the filter mount to the correct height clear the obstacles washer filter mount washer and nut.

2. Fabricate a new bolt by welding another bolt head to head to the top of a regular head bolt. My first concern with this approach was taking the temper out of the head bolt. So thought of sticking the head bolt in water right up to the head and then arch welding the bolt for the filter on head to head.

What are peoples thoughts?

Cheers Phil

PS Remember that there are two different head bolt lengths used on the Chevy head.

I've done a trial of the bolt head to bolt head welding but have no idea what, if any, metallurgical effects it may have had. The basic welding of one to the other wasn't hard - create the tapered groove, weld them and dress the weld down. This was only done to satisfy my curiosity as a trial to see if it was possible to make something of the right size and shape, not actually used to hold the head and filter in place.
