Hello All,
I saw an advertisement for an Owner's Manual for a 1940 Chevrolet & Maple Leaf Truck - with the attribution to "General Motors - Holden's Limited" on eBay. So I put in a bid. I was the only bidder. The manual arrived today. I got a big surprise when I opened the front cover and found the following data written on the inside leaf. Name of Dealer: 3rd Army Tank Brigade AASC Address of Dealer: Greta Registration Number: 16025 I am not sure if it is "AASC" or "AAS6"? I checked online and Wikipedia - yes, I know; it's not the most reputable source! However, it states that... Upon formation, the headquarters of the 3rd Army Tank Brigade was located at Greta, New South Wales. The 1st and 2nd Army Tank Battalions were stationed in the nearby towns of Dungog and Largs, and the 3rd Army Tank Battalion was in the process of moving from Goulburn, New South Wales to Greta.[3] By July 1942 the brigade was located at Singleton, New South Wales.[4] accessed April, 24 from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_Ar...de_(Australia)) Could the Registration Number: 16025 been a record of its Army Registration Number (ARN)? Interestingly, my maternal grandfather, who was with the 2/1st Pioneer's Battalion, military records show that his initial training was carried out at Greta. I also lived in Goulburn until I was 20 years old - and I still have family living there. I did not know that there was a tank battalion stationed thin Goulburn. A couple of weeks ago I went to the local "Yesteryear Historic Vehicles Rally". At the rally I met up with the owner of my 1940 Chevrolet - Holden's Truck's civilian "twin". I checked what our trucks are rated at and Merv confirmed 1.5 ton or 30 CWT. Now I just have to change my signature line details. Kind Regards Lionel
