I imagine that the reason for closure would be lack of public patronage. The museum was not in a convenient location and had to be sought out and always played second fiddle to the aircraft museum.
Another factor would be that museums dealing with national history are becoming more and more irrelevant as the population demographics shift toward people who have no interest or connection with the countries past. David

Management will probably draw up a short list of select vehicles to be offered to other museums because of their unique status and the ‘commoner’ bits sold, so the Lloyd would very likely get saved.
Paperwork is another matter. Even if passed on to another institution, paper has a nasty habit of vanishing forever. David |

I contacted Duxford and they said that the Land Warfare Hall is not due to close for a few years. They plan to use the hall as a new Collections and Conservation Centre. It is also planed to house some of there airline collection.
They intend to integrate as much of the collection as possible into the rest of the museum displays across the site, as they would like to better integrate aircraft and land vehicles. The vehicles that are on lone may go back to there owners and others may be put into store and swapped in and out depending on changes to exhibitions. |
