I'm old enough and crippled enough to finally admit that I'm never going to do anything with my Stolley. I thought I'd post it here where at least some people know a what it is (if you don't, or even if you do, there's some cool video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mr_pCrhTkk ) before I put it on Kijiji and have to answer too many questions.
The most visible modification is the extended cab. It's not full-length like the tourist-boat versions. The previous owner called it a crew cab. It still has most of the cargo bed. It has the diesel conversion that Rolls-Royce tried to sell to the British army, using a k-60 engine. The stack of manuals and other literature that comes with it includes the memos that describe how it was done. The swim gear is all in place and apparently working. Before I bought it, I had a ride in the Thames in it and it worked then. It has had dog-clutches installed in the forward and rear drive shafts so that it can be run in 2, 4, or 6-wheel drive. This should help with the drive-line wind-up problems that people complain about. The previous owner said he intended to install pneumatic cylinders to engage the clutches, but they're presently manually operated and somewhat inconvenient. I must confess that I never got around to examining exactly how they were set up, and now I'm too stiff to get to them if I tried. The only spares I have are a transmission, a set of brake calipers, and one 1400-20 tire. I did mention it includes manuals and other literature. It's located between London and Windsor Ontario. |

Hi Ed,
I am sure this is the same one that I saw at an event on the coast in Hampshire (UK) and they drove down the beach into the sea aiming for the Isle of Wight. The current was strong and an inshore lifeboat was following them for a while. Eventually we watched them drive up the beach on the island. Later on we spotted it heading back, you could see the black exhaust smoke ............ which suddenly stopped and it was sometime before we saw it moving. Appantly a fuel problem. When they drove up the beach they got stuck on the timber sea defences and a wrecker had to pull them over the timbers. This was somewhere in the very early 1990's. regards, Richard

Well it was a better video that the other posted by Ed himself, so it better represents the vehicle being sold.

Thanks for the link. I had heard that the video existed, but it didn't come up when I searched.
