Thank you all for your interest.Just to confirm that my truck in the C15, 2x4 with type 13 cab built in 1942 with the No1 Australian body.
I am missing the brackets that are shown in Owen's post. At some time in the past mine must have been removed, however, the U bolts are not long enough to accommodate the bracket so one assumes that the U bolts may have been changed as well, although why that would have been done is a mystery.
I am at the chassis and spring assembly stage so will take Grants advice and keep looking for answers as I go. Somebody from seventy years ago will know the answer.

Mike, the compressor came to me as a running unit and appears only to have the side covers missing, it runs quite well but is in an unrestored condition.I do not know its history, it has been painted the familiar green.
