My C15 has shockies on the rear axle but they appear not ever to have been attached to the axle, would this have been usual?This is the truck with the no 1 Australian body under restoration.
The picture shows how it looked at the tear down stage. My question is : should I leave it as I found it or find the parts if they are missing? thanks, Robert

Hi Robert
Looks like you are missing some bits. Think there is supposed to be a bracket for the shocker linkage on the spring mount cradle ? I had a IR model 100 compressor on the Aust. Chassis with 18" wheels. I had some nos parts like engine valves and gaskets for the 4 cyl. engine It all went to a scrap dealer in Drouin he may still have it. Have a carby here somewhere.

Presume from your post it's the 4x2, not C15A? Attached are the brackets you need for the 4x2 setup. Stefan has a couple of the early style of link rods here:

I am not specially familiar with the C15 but...
It is hard to imagine that the shock absorbers would have been fitted in production but not attached to the axle. My guess is that at some time the links and lower link mounting brackets were removed. There are no comments in parts list C15-02 indicating that the shock absorbers were only fitted to certain applications. There were different frame rails for cabs 11/12 and cab 13 but no variations within them for applications (punched or not for shock absorber mounting). There are also no notes about whether shock absorbers were used before or after a serial number so I would guess all production had them. Parts list C15-02 lists several types of rear shock absorber link. I suggest further research before buying/fitting the link from LWD, the part number C11Q-18054 doesn't appear in the list of Ford parts used on vehicles covered by parts list C15-02. It could be a perfect match or significantly different..... |

Thank you all for your interest.Just to confirm that my truck in the C15, 2x4 with type 13 cab built in 1942 with the No1 Australian body.
I am missing the brackets that are shown in Owen's post. At some time in the past mine must have been removed, however, the U bolts are not long enough to accommodate the bracket so one assumes that the U bolts may have been changed as well, although why that would have been done is a mystery. I am at the chassis and spring assembly stage so will take Grants advice and keep looking for answers as I go. Somebody from seventy years ago will know the answer. Mike, the compressor came to me as a running unit and appears only to have the side covers missing, it runs quite well but is in an unrestored condition.I do not know its history, it has been painted the familiar green.

Hi Robert,
Your truck is missing the two brackets and two small shockie tubes. The bracket mounts off the rear bolts of the u bolts holding the diff to the springs. Wayne. |

Thanks Wayne, I have a couple of spare tubes, I should be able to manufacture the supporting brackets.
