"Fire for effect", Bruce.... When you've got enough lead in the air..............
Good question. The drum mag would have been made for the anti aircraft role and at least in the twin mount arrangement, they had a special anti aircraft sight.
I too await the answer.

We called that spray and pray. Early Mk.1 Brens had a dovetail groove on the left side of the receiver that took a telescopic sight and maybe an AA 'spiderweb'. Later Brens must have had a clamp on something. Just another bobble to find, install and adjust as the Stuka was bearing down on you.

Peter Laidler wrote about a guy who ran out of cover to take on a German low flying aircraft with a Bren gun on the mk1 tripod with AA leg. The rest of the guys ran under a tree for cover. The guy was the bravest dead man they ever knew. A 303 is no match for a 20mm cannon.

Worse must have been the Lakeman mount. What a contraption. To mount the gun you can either fight with the two coat hanger hooks (rather like a Chinese puzzle) or remove the barrel, install the hooks and replace the barrel, neither option great with that Stuka.

Here's a Mk.1 Bren on a Humber Mk.II. No sight to be seen and the trooper's aiming eye seems to be looking over the top of the drum. Maybe every second round was a tracer?

Is that drum mag box the same as the Canadian one? For some reason I though the Canadian one was a flat square case with the four drums all side by each.

The Canadian chest is virually identical . I have several examples of the Cdn chests in my collection, and one complete with it's drums and accessories.
