Gordon, A question: If the center axle was so prone to breaking the long axles, How did they get on when the Detroit Lockers were fitted? I believe that you could break 3 rear half shafts and the truck would still drive on one wheel (ignore the front axle)
My understanding was that the detroit locker drove one side even if the other side had no load, as different from an lsd which requires resistance on both sides to still drive.
Obviously off topic here.
