Found a Govt. gazette with more info . Apparently the Govt. were paying more ( around 500 pounds total for each car ) than the advertised 'pegged' selling price for these tillies, in other words the tillies were subsidized . One newspaper report indicates that 1200 tillies were imported but that figure seems to be a inflated number, my rough estimate, which is calculated from the low number of tillie survivors, is that the number imported is likely to be in the low hundreds
