| Post War Life of CMPs

I know there is a thread that dwelt with the post mililitary life and use of CMPs but couldn't find it. A friend just sent me this picture with only the notation "Sent to me by someone with a CCKW". Truck looks to be in current use at the time of the photo. PS the guy who sent me the picture has a neat CCKW web site http://cckw.org/

| Book

I have just finished editing my pictorial book that features rebuilds, 1946-8. There will also be a large section on rebuild activities in the second of the series. However what amazes me most I suppose is that the old FATs, which had of course got a handy winch if it was still there, were often sold off and used as agricultural tractors! In a post-war world where there were no tractors available, save ex-Army/RAF ones, it makes sense. However I would suggest that the wreckers were the most sought-after in unrebuilt condition. There were however some really oddball-looking civilianised conversions on 4x4 CMP chassis, and you will have to see the book to believe it! |

“Construction workers building roads in the Negev Desert, Israel, 17th August 1950“ Nice late C15A: note the lifting slings on the hubs, expansion tank under the mudguard, jerry can holder under the cargo bed etc.
