I am just eating breakfast and then heading out to work. It is -25°C outside right now. I have lived on the Cdn prairie all my life. You do not get used to it, you just cope, knowing spring will come along in maybe 4 or 5 months.

I went to work in Afghanistan for 20 months to get away from the cold. That alone should say something.

No wonder all the CMPs and Carriers came Down Under to get away from that!

Yes, the CMPs and carriers are smarter than us. This weather will quickly kill you if you give it a chance.

I have to point out that the Winnipeg dry cold beats the hell out of the wet/humid cold of winter. I had to work in Winnipeg about ten years ago and it was in a deep cold spell of upper -30c (less WC factor) fly back to Ottawa on weekends to a balmy -5c and found it much worse and all clammy cold. Noticed the same thing in the Arctic so give me a bone snapping dry cold in the dead of winter any time,

James has a point . But Minus -25 or -30 still sucks badly . Try starting anything that was not plugged in or pre heated in that kind of cold ! It sucks , it sucks .

Hmmmph....balmy/clammy-5? We call that springtime in these parts. It's going to -29 tonight with a gentle 15km breeze that is supposed to make it feel like -40. But thats OK, cause a car will only go to the -29...it'll just get there quicker.

There is no substitute for true cold.....when you reach for the 50 cal charging handle and it snaps in your hand. Or when the fuel pumps on the older cars, being slightly external to the block, gum up and freeze with condensation. You tow them inside for an hour until you hear the snap of the diaphragm spring kicking in, then you do it all over again.

The arctic is another story. The air is dense, and when the snow or ice cracks, it echoes.
