I read that the LynxI was prone to breaking axles and sure enough when I backed out of the Garage yesterday getting ready for the last of the year car meet at the local A&W when I attempted to start up hill in second and bang! I didn't know what it was at first but when I got it sorted I got it in four wheel drive and got back in the garage. I don't start in first because I can't get ny right foot on the brake in first gear because the shifter is dersigned to obstruct your right foot to the brake in first and third.
Got the axle pulled today and now I'm on the hunt for another axle, or two! Must be similar to an F8 axle or maybe even a civi axle of the same era. 41.25 inch' long on a 1 3/8 axle. |

Harry,
I had a look at the Ford Major Assemblies Catalogue, and the axle shafts are unique to the Lynx. If you can’t find an original, you might need to get one made up. Good luck in your search! |

Hi Harry,
To make a new axle, get one from a C8 CMP, and weld up the splines and then get machinist to recut the spline from what was 10 to the Lynx's 12 spline. Cost is about $150 to cut the splines. To match the look on the end of the axle ,just grind the casting knob off. The inner crown wheel hemisphere is from a 1940 One ton Ford truck, only difference there was the Lynx used a 35 tooth crown wheel, Cheers Andrew.

After inspecting it and Talking to a guy that helped Brook it appears he made the axle out of two axles and cut the splines himself.

I got an axle through a local racecar rearend shop who got it made by Dutchman out of Idaho.
Different job for them as they had to order the long Chrome Moly shaft and the outside profile is different. In checking clearances I had to get a 1/8 spacer madeand with the two gaskets the axle flange clears the axle tube that protrudes ever so slightly beyond the brake hub. Getting new lock washers made at the same water jet place as the spacers, I'll make extra's. |
