Grant, to get to the post's need for a date, have you seen documentation that shows a not before date? Like a detailed parts description diagram? We've got to help our fellow MLUer, ie the citizen, approach regulators who only understand commercial conventions.

The suggested 1940 date based on the cab is probably worthwhile as a start date. Engines were and are fairly interchangeable along the production run, but chassis and body details evolved.
