Thanks Lynn. Next dry day I'll run the engine properly. I'm thinking that if the carb is not flooding while the engine is not running, it surely won't flood when it is running.

Used a facet pump in the past with a “king” filter / regulator bowl with a gauge fitted, I was told to set delivery pressure to 3 PSI however I was using a stromberg carb. The information came via a hot rod emporium in Dorset
