Default RIP Motto

Dave Mottram AKA 'Motto' on the MLU forum , has passed away.

Dave was a early member of the local MV club, I believe he first joined the VMVC in 1973. In the early days, Dave was often seen driving around in his Lend-Lease Chevrolet truck . A natural born engineer, in the 1960s Dave had completed a apprenticeship as an airframe fitter and went onto a long career in the airline industry - eventually qualifying as a licensed airframe engineer. He was working on many aircraft types including DC9 and 727 airline jets. Dave occasionally rode to work on his ex-army WLA Harley, which, I believe he had purchased from the govt. disposals auctions at Tottenham.

Dave bought the Harley from Tottenham auctions I believe and was only the second owner and kept it in original condition. He sold it to my son Jake a couple of years ago when his health meant he could no longer ride it. Jake has been asked to bring it to his funeral next week.
Didn’t really need to be asked.

Dave was a real quietly spoken gentleman with a huge fund of knowledge. He solved a couple of sticky problems for me by thinking out of the box.

A big loss to the vehicle movement.

I can remember him driving his Lend Lease Chevrolet 3-tonner on our Istanbul to Normandy trip. We were leaving a port in Crete when a couple of illegal immigrants tried to leap into the back of his truck by sprinting along behind when he slowed for traffic. One made it but was soon evicted. Dave saw the second one in the mirror running flat out behind so he slammed on the brakes which unfortunately were a lot better than the runners brakes. Needless to say number two never got on board.
