Default F60 pinion and transfer case seals

Hi Larry,

I cannot give you a number for the pinion seals, but this is what I have found.

I put the vernier on some spares and got the following measurement:
Dia of drive flange at seal 2.375"= diameter of shaft in catalogues.
Dia of bore in pinion bearing and seal carrier 3.475" = bore in catalogues.

I have a NOS pinion seal made by Flaseal, A. Flavell Limited which no longer in business. Part No. A 1259. The OD is 3.480" which is 0.005" larger than the bore which is keeping with seal sizing.

I had a look in the National and SKF seal catalogues and didn't find any match, not even close, but perhaps a second pair of eyes may see something I missed. The catalogues are easy to find online.

As for the transfer case seals my F15-A uses the same seals there as the two speed case. I used CR 19350 seals there. The OD and shaft size was the same as original, but the thickness was only 0.313" (5/16") The original seals are double that at 5/8" thick. I made 5 mm aluminum spacers and put them behind the seals just to bring them up a bit. The limiting height is at the cutaway for the bolts otherwise there could be leakage there if brought up to the original height on the seal carrier.

I also installed Speedi sleeves there too. Drive pinion flanges are invariably rough there from dirt grinding away the sealing surface. No use going to all the effort and expense to have new ones chewed out quickly.

Hope this helps a bit.

P.S. Hanno, I think I now can post photos easily again!

Cheers,
