Gotta break your heart Hanno, Canadian ones are very scarce on the advertised markets. Mine has had one major restoration after it was rebuilt from pieces. The others will probably be in a similar condition.

I thought I'd made a deal on a crunched up one in New Brunswick but Johnny Doubledealer sold it for cash as I was arranging for transportation.

A Canadian one would be great, but I wouldn't mind one use by another country either.

Way back when the USMC auctioned off their surplus M151A2's, I should have bought one...

(I remember Chris Muys in Belgium sold one to a couple of British guys. They took off to drive it home and then crashed it into a tree. They came back and just picked up a second one, Chris had plenty of them.)

An interesting read gentlemen. I think you will continue to see many vehicles and bits coming up in the market as our cohort of collectors, restorers and dreamers get into advanced old age.
I have several friends who are in clean out mode as am I. If you have a 40 year stash of vehicles and parts what is your exit strategy? You can adamantly refuse to sell out cheap or you can leave it for your kids or wife to clean up, not a very fair proposition.
I am also downsizing and despite the high prices people are asking I dont think most vehicles are realizing the prices the the owners aspire too.
Most Canadians are at best reluctant buyers I am afraid.
So enjoy what you have and perhaps try to encourage the next generation with an affordable vehicle and some help with the project.

I had a fairly large collection of MVs for many yrs. I had over 30 at one time. When I hit 65 I found that it was just to hard for me to keep working on them. I do have more health issues than most but I was still not too bad. It was just to hard for me to do anything with the big stuff. I slowly started to sell and it took me 6 yrs but now only have a couple of small units left and two Mogs. One of the other reasons I started to sell was the Govt. overreach in licencing the units. Our prov. (Sask.) canceled my HUMMV licence plates and started to restrict some of my other units as well. They started to question if MVs were allowed to be street legal. Sask also told me I could only licence my DUKW for water or land not both???? I had a Sunbeam amphicar a few yrs ago and no issues with it. It just got to the point that it was not worth the fight anymore and I was by myself none of the classic car clubs were interested in fighting the Govt. as it was not affecting them YET. I wish the hobby well and hope it survives but I think its only going to get worse. Good luck everyone.

Every collector thinks he has gold. What we may see as a cash payout, many see as a pile of scrap metal.
Many family members do not see the value, know the value or even care about these old machines. For many, they might even be the thorn in the side of spouses or others who have grown jealous of our affairs with these girls.
We often hear that the purpose is to “preserve history” for younger generations. While this is a noble cause, truth be known most young people
don’t have any interest or care. They may passively think something is “neat” or “cool”, but aside from that they walk on by, face buried in a cell phone, oblivious to the world around them.
This leads us to a couple conclusions.
We can either get out when the getting’ good and hope for a decent return on investment, or, we can allow our treasures and dreams to slip through the cracks of time and end up as a Walmart toaster.
Guys, do yourselves a favour and establish an exit strategy. Educate your family, set up a trusted person to assist in liquidating your collection if you expire. Instead of being a money hungry old codger, mentor a young lad who you can inspire and light the flame of passion as you once did.
I’d sooner see my stuff go to good homes
rather that end up in a bin.
For me, I have two adult boys who don’t share
my interests. Hopefully as the grandkids grow, perhaps one of them
will.
