Surely with the weight of the armoured body, these axles would be borderline capacity?

Why wasn't the heavier rear engined chassis used for the Lynx?
Tony,

I am no expert on the Lynx, but am experienced with the Daimler "Dingo" from which it is based. It seems that the design is bound around the dimensions of the Daimler, except for its height as there was not much that Ford could do to bring it down anymore. It appears that the axles were heavier on the Lynx 2, so there must have been problems with the weight being around 4 tons, 1 ton heavier than the Daimler.

The Ford rear engined chassis would have been longer and wider as well.

Richard
