Default King and Queens visit to 1st Division

Hi David:

We had several visits from the Royal Family in 1940 and 41. If you contact the 48th Highlanders museum in Toronto, Canada they may have photos of these events. One, King George visited the Regiment January 24 1940 in Aldershot and the Queen Mother visited us in Dorking in 1941.
As you are a historian you may be able to answer a question for me that I have. Now I am going back 60 years but it is still with me. As a young impressionable soldier the visit by the King in 1940 with all the mass of brass left me in great awe. What stands out in my mind above all this was the surprising amount of makeup the King had on. I know he had a very very pale palor but the makeup was very noticable. Now in your research is there any mention of King George using makeup or was it my imagination?
