Default Chassis number

The number breaks down # 353 18185, for DUKW-353 then the sequential number. Assembly probably at Pontiac, Michigan Plant although Flint, Michigan and another Chevrolet Plant were used as well. I will check my GMC US Government parts list to see if I can tell any more. The engine number will be 270 XXXXXX, for GMC 270 cu in 6-cylinder. E.g. serial number 270 637537.

DUKW = DUKW-353 50 CWT. AMPHIBIAN 6 x 6 164 in. W.B. [REAR AXLES 44 in.]
ENGINE = 270 CUBIC INCHES, 35.24HP RATING
D = 1942 MODEL
U = UNCONVENTIONAL CAB
K = FRONT WHEEL DRIVE
W = 6-WHEELS, OR 2 REAR-WHEEL DRIVE

'Cleves' is where Anna, fourth wife of King Henry VIII came from, the 'Flanders Mare'. She was clever enough to agree to a divorce and was appointed 'the King's Good Sister'.

We live about 1 km from the New Forest, planted by King William I as a hunting forest.
