Thanks for the input guys. Im now leaning towards painting over it.
Barry, Yes it is King George the VI. At the time he was Colonel in Chief of the RHLI. Next to him is Major-General V.W. Odlum. The one in the front is Brigadier C.B. Topp and the driver is Lt. W.D. Whitaker. At the time Whitaker was the O.C. of the Carrier platoon. By wars end he was O.C. of the Regt and retiered post war as Brigadier General.
